Description

This carefully-designed lodge is tucked away in a 70 hectare private reserve, bordering the Corcovado national park and overlooking the Pacific ocean. There are two swimming pools, a spring-fed swimming pool hidden away beside a small stream and a main pool near the reception area, and the nearby beach is half a kilometre long. It was previously called Casa Corcovado.

Activities

Walking, riding, wildlife-watching, kayaking, sports fishing and snorkelling at the Caño Island reserve. Guests can walk down to the beach or take a shuttle bus.

Accommodation

The bungalows have been built using materials and techniques local to the Osa peninsula. The rooms have ceiling fans, air conditioning and hammocks, and the private bathrooms have hot water showers.

On arrival at Drake Bay the minibus took us eventually down a steep eroded track to a small coastal village. Here we waded through the water to a boat waiting off shore. On approaching the remote Corcovado Lodge we transferred to 2 smaller boats. The boatman successfully avoided the many rocks to beach the small boat and we were helped safely through the surf to the beach. The group then mounted a trailer and a tractor pulled us up a long steep track to the reception building for a welcome drink.

We were shown to a large spacious villa with outside shower and air-con. Later that evening there was a mass exit from the restaurant as a tapir had been spotted in the garden behind our bungalow. We were amazed that this wild animal just calmly munched away on a bush as about 20 guests took photos.

The guided walk into the immediately adjacent Corcovado National Wildlife Reserve was incredible. We joined a group snorkelling trip to the uninhabited Caño Island where we saw many colourful tropical fish including a large ray and a small shark. One afternoon at the lodge we were entertained by a group of howler monkeys as they swung through the trees and clambered over the roofs of surrounding buildings, a pair of brightly coloured macaws, and a couple of toucans.

Corcovado Wilderness Lodge was a great place to start our adventure. We loved the set up, the staff, the excursions were great and the food excellent! The only let down was our room as we felt it was plain in comparison to the rooms overlooking the sea - but they didn’t allow children there. - LE (December 2025)

The transfer from Sierpe was really good and a great introduction to Corcovado Wilderness Lodge. The guide gave us a very detailed explanation about the lodge, how it worked and what to do if you come face to face with a puma! Both excusions were very good and the guides were great. All the hotel staff were very good too. We had a bit of a problem with the room they gave us but they were very good and put us in one of the new rooms on stilts which was very good. They are set right in amongst the rainforest, quite a bit away from the rest of the hotel reception area and rooms, so you do feel very much on your own at night which we liked, but for anyone who can’t walk too far they may find the uphill climb you need to make to get to the rest of the hotel areas a bit taxing. Both the walk and snorkelling trip were very good – we  were very lucky to see quite a few whales and a couple of pods of dolphins too which was a bonus. - SJ (February 2024)

The flight to Palmar Sur and the onward boat trip to Casa Corcovado was something totally different and exciting. We did like the lodge and we had an excellent guide and saw a lot of wildlife and also enjoyed snorkelling by Caño Island. The flight was amazing. We were greeted at Palmar Sur by our guide Mario, who was to be our guide for the whole visit. We were a group of 7 that arrived together and we did everything together from then onwards. Our lodge and Corcovado was absolutely beautiful but I would have paid a lot of money whilst there for some air conditioning. The 2 arranged trips were both fantastic. Loved the swim in the river and the snorkelling was excellent. - S&MH (February 2010)

Casa Corcovado was a little piece of heaven as far as we were concerned! We were very lucky with the group to which we were attached, and have made some good friends. We were even luckier with our guide who was excellent, very patient and had a good sense of humour. I think we wished we had booked in for longer! Casa Corcovado is a beautiful place and offers good tours. The extra bird watching walks 5.30 to 6.30 are first class! They have a special site about 10 minutes walk from the hotel for 'sundowners' before supper - it's wonderful to watch the sunset and hear the jungle sounds. - RM (February 2007)
