Monteverde Lodge
Location
Monteverde (Monteverde, Costa Rica)
Description
A very comfortable lodge with a good atmosphere. The grounds are lovely and offer excellent wildlife and birdspotting opportunities. The restaurant and bar area are cosy and the food is very good (complimentary tea and cake are served each afternoon).
Accommodation
Rooms in the main wing are comfortable and quite spacious. There are 3 garden suites that are slightly larger and more basic but have the advantage of opening straight onto the garden.
Client comments and reviews
Like Tortuga this is another Boena group Lodge. The receptionist showed us to a large spacious light filled room with full width folding glass doors opening onto a private terrace and the cloud Forest. As she was explaining why we must make sure the terrace doors are locked, a family of inquisitive but wild pizotes appeared. We managed to close and lock the doors and prevent them wrecking the room foraging for food - a memorable occurrence! We enjoyed a light lunch from the comfort menu in the large lofty restaurant with central open log fire. From our table on the sunny balcony we had views over the cloud forest canopy below. The food quality and choice was excellent. Next morning after an early breakfast a minibus took us high up into the cloud forest reserve. At this altitude (5.000ft) it is chilly in the evenings and early mornings until the sun breaks through the clouds. We gained a considerable amount of knowledge of the habits and ways of all the animals and birds we came across. A glimse of the rare quetzel with its beautiful iridescent plumage and long tail feathers was the highlight. The five suspension bridges gave me the chance to repeatedly face my fear of heights amid the views of canopy life.

One of our favourites. The room was big and lovely and they gave some chocolates as a honeymoon present. There was free coffee and cake to help yourself to. The gardens and pool were beautiful and very relaxing. The food was fantastic. Would definitely recommend this hotel and location. Wish we had stayed there another day.

The Monteverde Lodge was slightly less grand compared to the other hotels we stayed but we very much appreciated their little touches such as complementary mid-afternoon tea and cakes and tasty "amuse-bouches" before each meal.
